PhD Candidate Nilay Doğulu is appointed as the EGU Early Career Scientist Representative for the Hydrological Sciences

Nilay Doğulu, Ph.D. Candidate at the Water Resources Laboratory of our department, will serve as the Early Career Scientist Representative for the European Geosciences Union (EGU) Hydrological Sciences (HS) Division for the term 2017-2019. She took over the role from Dr. Shaun Harrigan (Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, United Kingdom) at the EGU General Assembly 2017 held in Vienna on 23-28 April. Nilay has also served as the Secretary (2015-2016) and the Chair (2016-2017) of the Board of the Young Hydrologic Society (YHS). Nilay’s appointment as the EGU ECS Representative is a great honour that reflects her enthusiasm and commitment to the hydrological sciences.

Nilay Doğulu graduated from Middle East Technical University (METU) Civil Engineering Department with a bachelor in Civil Engineering. She has an interdisciplinary background on engineering and social science aspects of flood risk management. Her particular research interests include application of data-driven modelling techniques along with computational statistics methods for hydrological predictions as well as quantification of associated uncertainties. She is currently working under supervision of Associate Professor Elçin Kentel in her Ph.D. research.
