Course Objective

The objectives of this course are to give basic principles of planning and design in water resources systems. It is also intended to enable the students to use these principles in the design of a hydraulic structure, e.g. a diversion weir.

Course Content

Planning for water resources development. Characteristics and planning of diversion weirs. Water intake from rivers. Hydraulic design of diversion weirs. Gated diversion weirs. Projects of diversion weirs.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course unit, the learner is expected to be able to design a diversion weir to meet the stated project requirements.
