Course Objective

The objectives of this course are to introduce basic hydraulic principles and design guidelines involved in bridge environment.

Course Content

Introduction. Water Surface Profiles at Bridge sites. Flow through bridges. Vortex systems around bridge piers. Mechanisms of local scour around bridge piers. Hydrologic and Hydraulic Design Parameters. Hydroeconomic Analysis for Bridges. Protective Measures Around Bridge Piers and Abutments.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course unit, the learner is expected to be able to carry out hydraulic design and analysis of river bridges.
