DOUBLE MAJOR / MINOR PROGRAMS
Information about double degree and minor degree programs can be seen on the METU Student Affairs Office website:

DOUBLE MAJOR:
Among the students of our department, the number of students studying in a double major program in another department is less than 10 student per year, this number corresponds to a very small percentage of our total number of students. The number of students who successfully complete the double major program, per year, is less than 1 student per year (*see the note below).
The most common departments (in no order) studied by our students in the double major program are:
Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry departments.
MINOR:
Our department offers two minor programs:
• Geotechnics: This program is aimed at students in other fields of engineering and science wishing an introduction to the behavior of engineering soils and geotechnical applications, especially those who are likely to collaborate with geotechnical engineers in their future professional life. The program requires basic knowledge of engineering mechanics and hydraulics. The emphasis will be on the principles of soil mechanics and ground investigation, which are of value in gaining an understanding of problems such as slope stability, groundwater movement, ground improvement, and environmental geotechnology. Detailed information can be accessed from this link
• Structural Analysis and Design: The purpose of this minor program is to introduce students, especially in the architecture department, to the modern methods of structural analysis and to acquaint them with current design procedures. The emphasis is on buildings, although other structural forms will also be used to illustrate the underlying concepts. Detailed information can be accessed from this link
Among the students of our department, the number of students studying in a minor program in another department is about 18 students per year. The number of students who successfully complete the minor program, per year, is less than 1 student per year (*see the note below).
The most common departments (in no order) of our students studying in the minor program are:
Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geological Engineering (most of them are in the "Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing" minor program), Mining Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, City and Regional Planning, Economics, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Physics, Sociology departments.
Note:
* The number of students who successfully completed the double major program between 2009-2021 (within a period of total of 12 years) is total of 7, and the number of students who successfully completed the minor program is 8 in total.
