The project entitled "Guidelines for Structural Health Monitoring Systems on Tall Buildings and a Case Study," of which our Structures faculty member Assoc. Prof. Ozan Cem Çelik is the principal investigator, will receive 406,000 TL funding for two years from the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency within the scope of the National Earthquake Research Program. Our graduate student Oğuzhan Gümüş will also be involved in the project as a project assistant.

Turkish Building Seismic Code, which has recently been enforced, now requires the building owners to install structural health monitoring systems on tall buildings, which consist of accelerometers placed at various floors and digital recorders. These monitoring systems will facilitate the evaluation for continued occupancy after a potential earthquake and if there is no damage, the economic losses that would otherwise be incurred due to the building shutdown during the decision process will be prevented.

This project will prepare guidelines for structural health monitoring systems on tall buildings, which are now made mandatory by the Turkish Building Seismic Code, and install such a system on a selected tall building in an earthquake zone as a case study.
